Loving…

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Love this perfectly pulled together casual, yet perfect for a meeting outfit from Ann Taylor Loft.

I am absolutely in love with this new outdoor collection from Room & Board. It makes me long for a yard even more.

The perfect, go with anything, dress-up, dress-down earrings.

Loving…

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

There are so many great things these days. First up, Joslyn’s backyard and urban garden. Seriously, could it be any prettier? It makes me want to do more with our front porch.

I think this denim tulip skirt is the perfect shape for my body.

And aren’t these Polaroid notecards so fun and unique.

Finally, doesn’t this dress look like it’s covered with pretty brush strokes? Love.

Beach Towels

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

When we went to the beach on 4th of July weekend I realized we don’t have beach towels. I’d love these ones {for an 8th of the price, please}!

Planter

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

This windowsill planter is so pretty. It’s smaller than it looks, so I think it would definitely work in a kitchen with yummy herbs or even outside on a table filled with tealights.

Planters

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

The super stylish Erin may have just found my new planters. I’m slowly trying to get a more cohesive look out front and the awesome roundup she did today provided many options with these ones really jumping out at me. They reminded me of what Erika at Urban Grace did in her yard- which I loved.

Garden Update

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

On Sunday we did some gardening. Here’s a few pictures of our latest additions and one showing the growth since my last post about the garden in mid-April.
We transplanted the Fuscia that were originally in the pots on the patio into two new hanging baskets. They looks much better up high where you can see the pretty blooms hanging over the side.

This configuration is now in the pots that originally held the Fuscia. I’m hoping the Sweet Potato Vine and Coleus will thicken out and fill the pot. Fingers crossed. The Pansies on the backstairs had definitely reached their breaking point. The heat was doing them in. I pulled them out and planted a different variety of Impatiens, the same flower we have in the front flower bed.
Check out the growth of what we did in April! The four Hydrangeas have basically doubled in width and they have blooms! The Impatiens are out of control with a blanket of color in our front yard! I think this fall we’re going to add nutrients to the soil so that hopefully next spring two of the Hydrangeas will produce purple flowers and two of them will produce blue flowers.

Overall I couldn’t be happier with it! Now lets hope our basil, peppers and tomatoes on the side of the house do something this summer!

Weekend Snapshots: The Front Garden

Monday, April 20th, 2009

This weekend we tackled redoing our small front yard. Here’s some pictures of our project.

The scraggily front yard before we got started.
After careful consideration we came home with Hydrangea bushes, Fuscias and two varieties of Impatiens. Our yard and porch gets partial sunlight so the selection of pretty flowers was limited.
Some of the Impatiens found their way into the vintage baby bathtub and the Fuscias found their way into the pot by the grill and another pot by the front door.
Closeup of the Impatiens in the bathtub.
Planting the hydrangea bushes.
Arranging the Impatiens in front of the Hydrangea bushes. Another Hydrangea bush is going in that last hole on the right.
All done!

Flower

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Any idea what flower this is? It’s been blooming here in North Carolina since January and I’d love to plant some in our front yard for blooming next year. Stephen thinks maybe roses but they don’t look like the roses I’m familiar with. Thanks for your assistance!

Herb Markers

I spotted these in Wednesdays Etsy newsletter. Aren’t they so cute?! They’d be perfect for our herb garden this summer.

Shooting Stars

Monday, August 11th, 2008

If you look into the northeast part of the sky tonight around midnight and into the very early morning of the 12th, you’ll be able to see the Perseid meteor shower with shooting stars streaming by nearly every minute. I love when things like this happen. It just reminds me how large the universe is and how I’m just a small part of something so much bigger. {image via science.NASA.gov}

Instant Organic Garden

Friday, August 8th, 2008

One day when I have more than an urban patio, I want to start a small urban garden. Sometimes though, the task seems so huge and costly, it makes me worried that I’d put a lot of time and effort into it and nothing would grow! When the time comes and if we’re still in Charlotte, I’m definitely going to be using this company to help me. {image via maomau}

Bistro Table

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

I love spending evenings and weekends outside. So, it was only a matter of time before I started searching for a bistro set. Initially, I had in mind this one, but when I saw the one above at the flea market- for a fraction of the price- and was able to talk the dealer down $15 I knew I had to have it.

Succulent

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

I love this succulent. It reminds me of the unique plants I used to see in Arizona-where I grew up. I wonder if something like this could live in North Carolina because it would look great on my new bistro table.

Hydrangeas

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

While walking around my apartment complex this evening I stumbled upon a lovely hydrangea bush right around the corner. First thought: The renter of this unit is so lucky to have this by their front door instead of the stupid prickly brush that’s by mine. Second thought: score! Now I have free flowers {not to mention my favorite} for the rest of the summer! {image via original_ann}

Herb Garden

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

We found a vintage baby bathtub at the flea market! It came all the way to Charlotte from Eastern Europe and now it has basil, oregano, cilantro, red peppers and patio tomatoes!
