Local Stops: Yoga Palace

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Ever since my yoga instructor moved to a new studio pretty far from home, I’ve been on the hunt for somewhere to practice. Since I wasn’t quite sure what I needed, I contacted her for a recommendation and was told about Yoga Palace which was to open “later in the summer”. Well later this summer is finally here and I attended my first class on Monday.

People, I loved it. The Vinyasa class was a great pace and boy am I feeling it, even today. I’m excited to try classes with the different instructors and find out who is the best fit.

And the specials for their opening month. Wow, amazing!

If you’re searching for a new studio in center city (it’s on East by the Harris Teeter) with moderate sized classes I definitely recommend.

P.S. Yoga Palace has given me no financial contribution for this post. I simply loved them and thought you might too!

Loving…

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

I’m changing the name of the Thursday post from Coveting… to Loving… because as I was getting this post together I realized I don’t have a ton of things I’m coveting this week, but rather more things on my mind that I’m loving. So, without further adieu, this weeks loving…

Alicia Bock’s print The Renault. I haven’t been to Paris yet, but this is what it looks like in my mind. Moody and quirky and all together lovely.

Six weeks of amazing inspiration from 300 fabulous bloggers. I’m posting February 25th (click here to see when the other bloggers are posting) and am busy compiling my list of everything that inspires me.

Yoga. When I’m in class I feel strong and proud of my body.

I was so against Twitter for so long (I’m not quite sure why) but now that I’m on, I’m hooked! Follow me here. I love social media.

Wachovia Possibilities Rewards. For every penny I spend and every bill I pay, I earn points. I just traded them in for a $50 Restoration Hardware gift card!

Pilates

I tried a new mat pilates class yesterday and loved it! I’m super sore in all the right places which to me is an indication of a great workout! This working out thing is getting easier and easier…

The studio holds a maximum of seven students so I really felt like I had individualized attention. Even better, it’s walking distance from my house. Definitely check out Pilates4U if you’re in Charlotte. I think you’ll love it!

Yoga

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

As many of you know, one of my New Years Resolutions was to start and maintain a realistic workout routine. So, in order to help meet this goal, I signed up for a 4-week introduction to Yoga class. I think both paying for the class and knowing I have a non-refundable commitment, will help me stay motivated.

I’ve enjoyed pilates for a while now, but think I would benefit from the mind-body-soul aspects of yoga. And as a more practical reason, my neurologist suggested it as a way to help me relax and hopefully prevent migraines so I can eventually get of the preventative medication. Plus, have you ever seen a yoga body? They’re so long and lean- beautiful!

The class starts the Tuesday after I get back from Greece– I hope I’m up for it! Fingers crossed that I love it, I really want to!

Running Shoes

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

As you know, one of my New Year’s Resolutions is to start a realistic workout routine to have a more healthful lifestyle. Well, as I’ve been walking and running more I’ve noticed that my shoes didn’t have a lot of tread left on the bottom and also that my feet were aching afterward and sometimes the morning after.

So, on a whim yesterday, I went to a store called Run For Your Life. They examined my foot, watched how I walked, saw how I ran and had me try on several shoes. Then I walked and ran in each of them. Turns out, the Adidas I was wearing have some of the worst arch support and the New Balance I was thinking about is terrible for high arch support too! I truly had no idea!

I haven’t worked out hard in them yet, but after walking around in the house I can’t believe I waited this long! My new Mizunos fit me like a glove! If you have any foot issues like me (wide front, narrow heel, high arch, weak ankle and plantar fasciitis) then I highly recommend finding a store that specializes only in running. I’m actually excited to workout now that I think my feet wont hurt!!

Pilates

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

I just did pilates for the first time in ages and oh man can I tell it has been awhile! I definitely get a workout and love how using my own body weight tones and firms my muscles. I’ve only ever used Windsor and although I enjoy the workout at home, I definitely want to try and eventually join a studio. The equipment they use looks so awesome and I bet it does fantastic things to your body. If you haven’t tried pilates I definitely recommend it. It’s so low impact and quite honestly the only thing that gets me working out!
