Hey! Just a quick Sustainable Friday post to share my most recent love, my bath sponge!
Mine was in desperate need of replacing and I came across this one by Eco Tools made out of recycled plastic. It’s the same price as the a non-recycled plastic sponge ($1.99) but better because it’s recycled.
I found it at my local Target store not by all the body washes where you’d think it’d be, but instead up by the eco-products in the makeup section (by Burt’s Bees). I love that when it’s all torn up and worn out I can just throw it in the recycling bin! One less thing in the landfill, yeah!

This vignet is absolute perfection, especially that snake skin tray. Maybe the one I ordered will be here one of these days…

Tonya found these bookends at a local second-hand store. I haven’t been to see them in person, but I think they’re lovely (and I do need some bookends!)

Erika’s picture taken in Colorado. It’s not Arizona, but this make me long for the wild west and wide open space–something you just don’t see on the east coast.

It’s September. It’s Fall! Can you see my happy dance happening over here?! I’m so excited for cooler weather (even though it was in the 90s today). I’m not sure why I’m practically obsessed with fall… I think it has something to do with growing up in Arizona and not really having this season. At any rate, if the weather could just cool down a bit, I’d be all set! This month I’m looking forward to:
-Going to Charleston for Labor Day. I seriously love that town.
-The annual Charlotte Greek Fest. I can’t help myself, I’m a true sucker for this festival.
-Attending our organic cooking class for Green Girls, a break off of the local Green Drinks chapter. (Email me if you’re interesting in attending.)
-Attending TEDx Charlotte. I’m hoping to get gobs and gobs of inspiration.
-Helping my clients Jessica and Jeff celebrate their big day up in Elkin.
-And… maybe if I’m lucky, making it to Festival in the Park. We’ve lived here 3 years and each year we’re always out of town on the festival weekend. This year I have Jessica and Jeff’s wedding, so I’m hoping to make it on Sunday.
Cheers to a great September!

Are you familiar with our guest recipe blogger Joslyn of Simple Lovely? If not, you definitely should be. Her blog is filled with insane amounts of inspiration, candid thoughts and lovely photography. Her weekly Loving list is my all time favorite and I always add something from hers to my own. And did I mention her annual spending hiatus? It’s seriously inspirational and I think next year I’ll participate as we all know I love to shop, especially virtually! Anyway, without further adieu, enjoy this wonderful recipe!

Fall weather in Texas happens pretty late. Let’s just say, it’s altogether possible to have a positively “summer-esque” 90 degree day in late October around here. But I have this (thus far unproven) theory that you can rush fall weather by cooking “fallish” foods… So starting in September it’s all about pot pies and roasted butternut squash and cinnamon-laced pies. My go-to is an apple pie specked with cranberries and orange zest. It’s a twist on a traditional apple pie, sort of “apple pie with a kick”, and cooking it instantly has me feeling all cozy sweaters and rustling leaves… summer temperatures be damned.
p.s. – I’d love to say I make my own pie crust, but, well…I don’t. I do swear by the organic, whole grain frozen crusts from Whole Foods. They’re fantastic and feel somehow virtuous, which isn’t a quality usually attributed to pie crust…

Apple Cranberry Pie
(Adapted from Whole Living)
FILLING
- Juice of 1 orange
- Zest of 1 orange
- 5 cups of peeled, sliced apples (approximately 5 medium apples)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup fresh or frozen cranberries, chopped (if frozen, do not thaw)
- 1/2 cup dried cranberries
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
TOPPING
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons oats
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1- To make filling, mix all ingredients together in a medium bowl.
2- To make topping, mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. The topping mixture should clump when pressed together.
3- Add filling to cold pie crust and scatter topping all over the filling.
4- Bake at 400 degrees until the juice in the center of the pie is bubbling, about 1 hour. If the crust or topping becomes too dark, cover the pie loosely with foil.
5- Transfer to a wire rack; cool completely before serving.

So I tried a new restaurant over the weekend and y’all it was soooo good. 15 North Roadside Kitchen, have you heard of it? It’s over on Montford, where a whole slew of excellent restaurants have recently opened.
For an appetizer, my friend and I split the fried green tomates which was served with a sweet roasted red pepper jam. It was the perfect sharing size and really satisfied my Southern food craving albeit a bit more jam could have been served with it.
For my entree I totally switched gears and had baked ziti with meatballs. Only complaint: for the size of the pasta dish (which was enormous) I wish it came with one more meatball so that I’d have another for meal #2.
15 North has an extensive wine list and our server, who was a super fun, young 20-something gal, was pretty knowledgeable about the selections. For my meal, I unfortunately selected a wine that didn’t match my palate. I was able to swap it out for a much better selection, no questions asked and with no guilt.
For dessert it was back to Southern comfort with good ole’ banana pudding. A beautiful presentation in a martini glass with fresh, slightly grilled bananas, pudding, graham crackers and fresh homemade whipped cream. Excellent.
Overall I’d give them **** out of 5 stars simply because I think the menu needs a bit refining. There was a little too much mishmash for my taste (fish & chips, lobster rolls, baked ziti, burgers, steak & eggs… you see?). But, everything I had was delicious and paired with excellent service I foresee them staying in business for a long while.

Happy Monday to you! How was your weekend?
Mine was really great! Dinner out with a friend, a wonderful yoga class where I was finally able to do crow pose, finalizing the writing of my website copy and making a huge dent in The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest were all accomplished. All-in-all a relaxing, productive weekend which makes me beyond happy.
This week I have book club, a board meeting for Sustain Charlotte, a meeting with a potential client (fingers crossed!) and then onto Charleston for Labor Day. I’m beyond excited!
I hope you had a relaxing few days and are ready for a great week. Cheers!

Happy Friday to you! What fun do you have planned?
With our mid-week trip to Baltimore, I’ve been playing catch-up today and plan to this weekend as well. I’m trying to wrap up my Blue Feather Media website copy so that it can be plugged into the website, which from the samples I’ve seen, looks fabulous!
Beyond the work, I’m also doing some pampering with a haircut and eyebrow threading appointment. I’ve been feeling slightly disheveled this week and am really looking forward to some TLC.
I hope you have a relaxing few days, cheers to a great weekend. Be good!

Last week I was able to score some amazing deals on Gilt Groupe at the pre-release sale of John Derian for Target. Loving this melamine plate that I’m going to put in my bookcase.

This lamp that is utter perfection. It’s listed as vintage but I know 100% I’ve seen very similar ones. Anyone know where I can find similar?

I saw this bumper sticker and it immediately spoke to me. I love it.

And finally, doesn’t this pretty lady spotted over on A Cup of Jo look so stylish? I’d love to dress like her this early-fall (sans the head band).
